CHRISTA BRUNORI INTERVIEW

christa cover

Christa Brunori first came to international prominence as a result of her writing in the form of a bewitching series of poems thematically concerned with one’s relationship with Identity. Buoyed by a riot of scintillating wordplay flecked with a tantalizing degree of emotional sincerity, her verse triumphed in being deeply personal yet accessible to all.

At one with nature, Christa’s indomitable spirit and passion for life blazes through her writing, the astonishing works of art that she creates serving to hush and inspire fellow artists and admirers alike. As well as penning breathtaking poetry saturated with integrity, Christa is equally adept at writing striking odes to places she adores, not to mention interviewing luminous personalities of cultural significance.

Christa is also an accomplished model, having gained a formidable wealth of experience by engaging in myriad shoots across America, prior to wisely edging into the film industry. Over the course of the past two years, she’s gone on to become one of America’s most revered and hardest-working models and actresses, creatively collaborating with all manner of praise-surrendering photographers and film-makers in order to further cement her reputation as a genuinely talented, gracious and unprepossessing woman who deserves every success.

HELLO CHRISTA. HOW ARE YOU?

Hello, Steve! I am quite well, thank you! Excited to be a part of this opportunity!

HOW HAS THIS LAST YEAR TREATED YOU?

Hmmm… there is a loaded reply to that! Like most years, it’s had an ample amount of good days and rough days. Yet, what sets this year apart from the others, is a valuable lesson learned. To embrace all that hinders, and to challenge all that attempts to prohibit a thriving future. With this, I have set forth with determination, to endure the long and winding road to becoming a successful artist.

There will always be moments of hardship to surmount, but I have found that the key is maintaining willpower and self-belief. You are only limited if you allow yourself to be.

YOU ARE A UNIQUELY CREATIVE PERSON IN MANY ASPECTS OF YOUR LIFE. AS A MODEL, ACTRESS AND A WRITER, YOU ARE BECOMING WELL-KNOWN AND WELL-RESPECTED FOR YOUR OUTPUT OF WORK. WERE YOU CREATIVE FROM A YOUNG AGE, AND CAN YOU REMEMBER IN WHAT WAYS YOU WERE CREATIVE AS A CHILD?

I am deeply appreciative of such adulation! However, I see myself as someone that stands on a common ground where most other artists reside. We are truly blessed (and some days cursed!) to see life through artistic expression.

From as far back as I can recall, art and creativity have been a key influence in my life; from sketching, to writing, to being an equestrian. I am a dreamer. And with that, I thrive off of self-expression. Whether it is acting, modeling, writing… they all hold the same value. It is a value of utilizing my strengths and embracing my short-comings. Within those short-comings I find vigor within. I am always left astounded when I’ve pushed past my comfort zone, delved deeper into my core and revealed insight I had not realized was there before.

WHY DO YOU FEEL THE CONSTANT DESIRE TO BE CREATIVE?

HA!! I have to say… I ask myself that question ALL the time!

There are certainly days when I’ve wished I was not wired this way, due to the struggles involved. Then again, no matter which field you venture towards, hardship awaits. Denying the constant desire to be creative, would be to deny my self-identity. And having lived most of my life lacking this insight, and not recognizing the critical importance behind it, I will fight to remain in this realm – and continue to pursue helping others with their own battle, through my work.

AT WHAT AGE DID YOU BEGIN TO TAKE YOUR MODELLING AND ACTING SERIOUSLY, AND DID YOU FIND THAT POSING FOR PEOPLE CAME NATURALLY TO YOU?

I was a late bloomer! I discovered my passion for modeling and acting at the ripe old age of twenty-three. I suppose there was a natural ability to pose, but I recall my first experience, and nothing felt more unnatural! I was fortunate to have very understanding and patient people around, but I left that experience determined to never be unprepared again. And so, I hit the books! I researched everything from books, to magazines, to online resources, and self-taught my way through.

I must, however, credit the ability of being fully aware of my body to the years of being an equestrian. Everything begins in the core. The ability to center yourself helps with balance, whether it be riding, posing or acting. When it comes to modeling, posing goes beyond a structured visual. When a garment is put on, I am stepping into a character; and it is my job as a model to show the affect of what is felt when I’ve slipped into that fabric.

ARE YOU FRIENDS WITH MANY OTHER MODELS AND ACTORS IN THE AREA OF ARIZONA IN WHICH YOU RESIDE?

Absolutely! I feel it is critical to surround yourself with others in your industry. As someone recently mentioned in a conversation, no one is able to understand or trust in your abilities, the way a fellow actor or model will. Ultimately, to be successful you must believe in yourself more than anyone. Finding people that are alike is beneficial in ways, more than simply having a friendship. They share the common hardships and successes. But most importantly, with very few or no words spoken at all, they simply understand. Everybody could use somebody a lot like themselves.

Having said that, it does go beyond having people in the same field. I am eternally grateful to the friends in my life, in this industry and outside of it, for their continued support and love. I know I would not be where I am today without their encouragement. Through what they have seen in me, I have grown to believe in myself. When you are your own worst critic… that is a triumph in itself.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT MODELLING AND ACTING THAT EXCITES YOU SO MUCH?

You would think this question was easier to answer!

There is an undeniable aspect of taking on characters, foreign to your natural ways, and portraying someone you’re not. The thrill is within the unknown. Yet, there is still so much more. There is a freedom to live outside the realm of reality.

The “pre” and “post production” is every bit as exciting as the execution. Watching what was merely an idea, a simple thought, evolve into a grand piece of artwork. Whether that is on canvas, film, stage, in written form, or music, it all carries a sense of hope.

IF ANY ASPIRING MODELS/ ACTORS ARE READING THIS, WOULD YOU SAY THAT THIS INDUSTRY IS AN EASY CAREER TO BREAK INTO, OR WOULD YOU BE MORE LIKELY TO ADVISE ANY ‘WANNABES’ THAT IT’S BEST TO KEEP IT STRICTLY AS A HOBBY?

This industry is certainly no easy feat! Having stated that, I would never discourage someone from pursuing this field. With the right mindset, there is a bounty of knowledge gained and self-recognition discovered. My personal belief is to put forth all effort, whether you choose this as a hobby or career. Because, it goes beyond just you. There is an entire team/ set involved, all with dreams and passions of their own. To not fully apply yourself affects everyone involved. Either way, be committed.

DO YOU HAVE ANY INTERESTING SHOOTS OR FILMS APPROACHING ON THE HORIZON?

HA!! Now you’re asking me to give all my secrets away! All I can say is that I am always looking forward to, and towards the horizon!

YOUR MODELLING AND ACTING ASIDE, YOU ARE A FABULOUS WRITER. HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?

I am most grateful for your encouraging words! My style is categorized as ‘creative writing’. I write from the depths of personal experiences and observations of life. I tend to not know what is subsequent, as my inspiration is vast and seems to vary as life occurs. I find that the simplest, most overlooked aspects of life are too easily taken for granted. I hope to bring light to the small things.

IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN MODELLING, ACTING OR WRITING, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU PICK, AND FOR WHAT REASONS?

That, quite possibly, is impossible to answer! It is as if I have to choose a favorite child! HA!!

Well… All three bring unique qualities to life and inspire in very similar ways. For me, they are all connected. To choose one above the others would be detrimental, due to the fact that they all thrive off the same roots.

However, if forced to make that decision, my instinct says acting. As for why, I’m not entirely certain. But I can say, that it is the ultimate dream and most challenging. And I am not one to back down from a good ol’ fashioned challenge. Hard work and a bit of stubbornness will get you a very long way. After all, this is America. We were formed from the blood, sweat and tears of men and women who persevered.

WHY DOES WRITING GIVE YOU SUCH A THRILL?

Writing instills a sense of serenity. It is an outlet: in that expression of voice, I tend to feel the most fulfilled. The adventure’s borne out of taking a limited amount of words and creating something intriguing and hopefully inspiring. Whether the reaction of the reader is a positive or negative emotion, it ultimately does not matter. The intention is to encourage any reaction at all. If I am able to inspire an individual and one alone, then it is worth a necessary exposure of my vulnerabilities. Creating a unique piece entails baring it all. The fear in doing so is unrelenting. Yet the incentive is the ultimate.
