MINDY J. ‘FAYTHE-BRAEKZ’ INTERVIEW
Mindy J. ‘Faythe-Braekz’ is in no capacity your average artiste. Active in almost every field of creativity, she somehow juggles her precious time in such a manner that she is a writer, a poet, an actress, a photographer, a model, and a vocalist. What’s more, she has already proved herself to be incredibly talented at everything she coolly turns her heart, mind and hands to, her natural passion for ‘creating art out of nothing’ being all the motivation required for her to present her vast array of staggering work to the world.
A true star-in-the-making, Mindy J. ‘Faythe-Braekz’ is quite unlike any prolifically creative individual I’ve ever had the fortune to interview before. She lives, breathes and sleeps art in all its forms, and it’s only a matter of time before her talents are thrust into multiple spotlights on a global scale.
Here, in an exclusive interview with Steve, Mindy bares all about her infectious addiction to creation…
HI MINDY, HOW ARE YOU?
Exhausted, but good.
YOU ARE A WRITER, POET, ACTRESS AND PHOTOGRAPHER AMONGST OTHER THINGS. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU FIND THE TIME TO JUGGLE SO MANY CREATIVE INTERESTS?
Well, I have a few tricks up my sleeve, knowing myself and the pace I work at. Mostly, it’s a lack of sleep that provides the extra hours to get things done, and the fact I can multi-task & work under pressure.
DID YOU ASPIRE TO BE PROLIFICALLY CREATIVE IN SO MANY DIFFERENT MEDIUMS FROM A YOUNG AGE?
To be honest, my first choice of career was Marine Biology. When I found out the amount of schooling I had to do for that, all the science and math I’d have to take, I scrapped the idea. Writing was my fallback. My skills and interests just grew from there.
DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS BEING NATURALLY CREATIVE, OR IS IT SOMETHING YOU REALLY HAVE TO WORK HARD AT?
It depends on the medium. Writing comes as naturally as breathing; photography can be a challenge, but it always pays off. Meanwhile, modelling and acting just go hand in hand with the rest!
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOGRAPHS DO YOU ENJOY TAKING THE MOST? FOR INSTANCE, ARE YOU MORE INTERESTED IN TAKING SHOTS OF LANDSCAPES AS OPPOSED TO PORTRAITS?
I have an equal love of it all. Anything that catches my eye, I’ll capture it in the best way that I can. Still objects, I find I’m more creative with. Models, I find can get repetitive. But it’s all a challenge, and I love it.
HOW DO YOU APPROACH THE WRITING THAT YOU DO? DO YOU ‘MAP-OUT’ AND DEVELOP IDEAS IN YOUR HEAD PRIOR TO PUTTING A PEN TO PAPER OR YOUR FINGERS TO A KEYBOARD IN ORDER TO ACTUALLY BEGIN THE PHYSICAL PROCESS OF WRITING?
I wing it. It’s the only thing I know that comes as naturally as breathing. When I have writer’s block, or a dry spell, I have techniques and exercises to get me back into gear. But give me a subject, and I’ll spin it into something on-site. You’ll often find me speaking in rhyme when I’m caught in a really creative frame of mind.
YOU ARE ALSO A VOCALIST AND A MODEL. DO YOU FIND IT EASY TO BE THE CENTRE OF ATTENTION IN SUCH ‘ROLES’?
Yes and no. I like the attention, though I never do anything negative to attract it to me. I’m a solitary soul, and a sensitive one, as strong as I can be at times. With being in the spotlight comes responsibility, a heightened awareness of self, and of course the criticism, good and bad.
BEARING IN MIND THAT YOU ARE SUCH A WILDLY CREATIVE PERSON IN ALMOST EVERY RESPECT, ARE YOU SLOWLY BUT SURELY DISCARDING SOME OF YOUR CREATIVE INTERESTS AS YOU BECOME MORE INTERESTED IN OTHERS, OR DO YOU HOPE TO CONTINUE WORKING AS A WRITER, POET, PHOTOGRAPHER, ACTRESS, VOCALIST AND MODEL IN EQUAL MEASURE?
There are moments where I’ll get into a zone and be more in-tune with one medium, rather than the other. But I do my best to give everything a little bit off attention. Acting is my most neglected medium right now.
IF YOU WERE FORCED TO FOCUS ON JUST ONE OF YOUR TALENTS, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
As painful a question as that is, it’s easy to answer. Writing… because it’s what keeps me happy and alive. If I don’t write, I can’t live.
HAVE YOU EVER PUT ANY OF YOUR BREATHTAKING PHOTOGRAPHY ON PUBLIC DISPLAY?
Yes, all the time. Unfortunately, it’s also been stolen and mimicked, but that comes with the territory of anything artistic. It was quite an ordeal to get through.
ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR CREATIVE INDIVIDUALS YOU’VE BEEN INSPIRED BY?
No one in particular has been a huge influence. I don’t do as much research and appreciation as I should, I suppose. I try to build on other people’s work when it doesn’t come so freely to me, but then I’m wracking my brain as to how I can put my own spin on it.
FINALLY, HOW CAN PEOPLE LEARN MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR STAGGERING ARRAY OF WORK? ARE THERE ANY WEBSITES TO WHICH FOLK CAN FLOCK IN ORDER TO VIEW AND READ YOUR PHOTOS AND WRITING?
